Martha Washington

by Kevin from Laguna Beach

My Revolutionary War hero is Martha Washington. Martha died when she was 65 years old. Martha’s family was nice and generous. Martha’s real name was Patsy but her aunt called her Martha instead because she didn’t like the name Patsy. Martha had two brothers and one sister. When Martha was 10 she got a bear cub as her pet. Martha lived on a plantation and she had five slaves.

Later Martha got married to George Washington. Most of the time, she lived in Mount Vernon but she moved back and forth from army bases a couple of times during the Revolutionary War. My hero helped the Patriot cause by giving the soldiers food, clothes, and care. Martha mostly helped the soldiers who were wounded or injured. Martha had help from a lot of women and most of them went to help their husbands. Sometimes the women went on the battlefield and cooled the men down with water. That’s why I chose Martha as my hero.
