My Sister, Maya

by Rosa from Denmark

Who is your person? Who is that person that you want to spend the rest of your life with? Mine is my hero; my sister. Just a 16 year old girl from Denmark. But this girl has a heart filled with bravery and kindness. She is my hero because she sets a good example, she is almost always there for me and she will do anything to make me happy.

Don't think I'm all: My sister is the best in the world!!! But just saying, she is. Maya sets a really good example. Every time I do something wrong, like forget to do my homework or something like that, my parents will usually say something like: Why can't you just be like Maya. In school, Maya gets really good grades and all the teaches love her. But she is not only a good example in school. For example, one time we were skating in the park. I kept on trying to ride down that hill, but i kept on falling. When Maya saw, she came over and told me I have to lean more to the left and not to the right. Maya is the perfect example of how I want to be when I grow up.

Maya is always there for me. Well, not always. These days she is at her dad's a lot. But every time she leaves to go to her dad's, the second she walks out the door, I already miss her. One example of a time when she was there for me was when I came home with my report card. I hated it. My grades weren't that bad, but they had been MUCH BETTER. So when I got home, I ran up to my room and locked the door. I didn't want my parents to see. When Maya came home, she heard about it. She came up to my room and simply knocked. "Do you want to talk about it?" She asked softly. "Can I just come into your room later?" I answered. And that's exactly what I did. I went into her room and sat down on her bed. Without saying anything, I just gave her the report card. She read quickly and put it down. Then she gave me that special look. A look that always makes me laugh. I already felt much better. She didn't even say anything. Then of course we started talking about her birthday and everything about the report card just went away. I used to spend most of my afternoons in Maya's room. If I had a bad day, I would tell her all about it and she would just give me "the look", or help me solve it. Maya doesn't only help me with problems. She helps with homework a lot and I help her too. Once, she had a presentation on an artist. She presented it to me about 20 times. I told her when to talk louder and when to show a picture. Of course she got an A+.

We are all sad sometimes, but my sadness quickly fades away when I get home to Maya. If it's games and fun, or just watching a movie, she will do anything to make me happy. Even when she has tons of homework. Even just playing with Molly will make me happy. Molly is her little, cute, fluffy dog. Once I came to visit Maya when she was at her dad's. When I came in, Maya was training Molly not to jump up when people walk in. But she stopped and let Molly play with me. Another way she makes me happy is with jokes. Jokes aren't always funny. But Maya always tells jokes in a special way that always makes me laugh. No matter how sad I am.

Who is your person? Who is that person you want to spend the rest of your life with? Mine, is my sister Maya. That's because she sets a good example, she is always there for me, and she will do anything to make me happy. 5th grade is almost over, and it's been hard and confusing. I don't think I could have done it without MAYA!
