Bert McCracken

by Damon from Springville

"this band came together at the right time, it was meant to be this way"

Bert McCracken came straight from Provo, Utah. Along with band members Brandon (Drums) Jeph (Bass Guitar) and Quinn (Guitar), Bert does the heart-filled vocals for the band and the others sing backup.

They have had their struggles though, Bert had been to jail and was getting into drugs, and was also homeless. Before the band came together he was living in a garage. After he shared one bedroom of Quinn’s house with him. Brandon worked at Burlington coat factory, and Jeph bunked at a car dealership on the floor.

When they started recording home-demos for songs, they hung the microphone over a bar in a closet and Bert would sing the vocals there. They sent their MP3 demos to John Feldman (singer of goldfinger). He called them up the next day and said he loved it and was going to fly them out to Los Angeles.

Bert and the rest of ‘The Used’ have re-invented alternative music. That is why John Feldman wanted to get people to hear their music. He said he knew ‘The Used’ would change forever. Since then they have had 3 CD’s though most people think there are only 2, self-titled ‘The Used’, and ‘In Love & Death’. There is also a collection of home-demo’s unreleased tracks, song ideas, and live music from Henry Fonda Music Box. This CD is called ‘Maybe Memories’.

Bert Always puts other people first. He spends time with all of his fans at backstage parties and signings at music stores. Kids want to be just like him, breaking free of what is socially acceptable and get paid for what they love.

He is important to me because he broke free of this place in Provo, Utah. Bert McCracken has awesome lyrics, and he is so into the music, not fame or fortune, but the music.
