My Hero is Ewan McGregor. Who is he? Do you know Christian, the poet from the musical film, Moulin Rouge? (2001). Still do not remember? Well, how about Obi-Wan Kenobi of the latest Star Wars trilogy? Of course you know him, right? Yup, all those characters were performed by my hero, Ewan Gordon McGregor.

The first time I knew this Scottish man, born on 31st March 1971, was from Moulin Rouge!(2001). At first, I just wanted to see Nicole Kidman playing as Satine (the main character in Moulin Rouge). But, after a while, I was attracted by Christian. The most attractive thing about him was his splendid performance, especially his expressions which were very obvious whether he was sad, joyful, jealous, or other emotions. I think he was good in showing emotions through his expressions. The next thing that I admire from him is his voice, that is very clear and amazing. My favourite song which he sang in that movie was “ Come What May.” He sang it with Nicole Kidman. I think they were cool. Their emotions were clearly expressed on their faces when they sang the song. One thing which become very clear after I saw this film, is that Moulin Rouge has become my favourite film and Ewan McGregor has become My Hero.

After that, I started to search for information about him, such as biography movies that he were starred in, activities that he did, hobbies and many more. From that information, I finally knew that Ewan Mcgregor was born in Crieff City, Scotland, United Kingdom. He came from a Scottish family and his parents were teachers. Ewan McGregor himself seemed to love the performing arts since he was 16 years old. Because of that, he decided to enter London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama. His first debut was in 1992 in a British TV series entitled “ Lipstick on Your Collar.” A few years later he got a chance to show the quality of his acting by starring as Mark “Rent-Boy” Renton in Trainspotting. Yup, those are only a few things about the beginning of his career. Well, it might be better if we leave this topic now.

Now, how about his career in the latest 5 years? I personally think that he has a good ability in playing his roles in every movie perfectly. I have told you that I started to watch his films like, “Down With Love” (2003), “Big Fish” (2004, “The Island,” “Star Wars” and his latest film, “Stay” in 2005.

I think those five films were the best films he has ever played. For example, Star Wars, Moulin Rouge and Big Fish, each got an Oscar. Yup, as I told you before, in every film, he could play different roles perfectly. Once he played a man who was obsessed with love in Moulin Rouge! On the other hand he played a playboy in “Down With Love.” He could also perform as a wise man perfectly in Star Wars. Not only that, he also played as a psychiatrist in his latest thriller film “Stay.” Can you imagine that? Each film had a different genre. This fact proves that Ewan is a very talented actor. As I have mentioned before, his other good quality is his voice. Thanks to his voice, he was trusted to be the voice actor of the main character Valiant, in an animation movie “Valiant” (2005). He also became the voice actor of Rodney Copperbottom in “Robots” (2005). Well that’s about his career in the Hollywood industry. The latest news that I heard is that he will be playing in “Miss Potter” with Renee Zelweger and he will become the voice actor of Gnomeo in “Gnomeo and Juliet” in 2007.

Then, what about his love life? Ewan McGregor fell in love with a French woman named Eve Mavrakis, a production designer. They got married in July 1995. The other thing that I like about him is the fact that he really loves his family. In his family life, he was blessed with 2 daughters. The first one was born in 1996, named Clara Mathilde, while the second one, Esther Rose, was born in 2001. In fact, until now, his family life is clean from any kind of scandals. Ewan McGregor loved children. It is proved. Even if he already has 2 beautiful daughters, he still wanted to adopt a 4 year-old orphan girl from Mongolia in April 2006. He also protected her privacy and kept her safe in their house.

As an actor, he has a really strong adventurous soul. Honestly, I was really surprised when I knew that he was a motorbike addict. Do you know what he did? With his lovely motorbike, his friend, Charlie Boorman, and one cameraman, they did a very long journey, from London to New York via central Europe. The distance was 30.395 km. Incredible!

And you know what? He also cared about other people’s sufferings. I think not all actors have personalities like him. Did you know what he has done for other people? First, he become a member of UN Ambassador in the beginning of 2004. Besides that he is also involved in many UNICEF projects around the world, like helping children and their families suffering from AIDS in Africa. He donated his money and even came to Africa to help them in person.

The last thing he did recently was selling his cap collections to be auctioned at e-Buy Auction. The fund he gets will be given to DEBRA UK organization, an organization working on behalf of people with the genetic skin condition, Epidermousi Bullosa (EB). He is also going to visit other UNICEF projects in the year of 2007.

Yup, that’s all about Ewan McGregor. After reading about his life, I believe you know why he becomes My Hero. A multi-talented handsome actor who loves his family, cares about other people, dedicates his life for his work and has a great voice. He is also generous. For me, he is the best actor, best father for his children, and best hero for many people in this world. By the way, he has a very good relationship with his fans.
