MercyMe

My definition of a hero is someone with many accomplishments or achivements and someone for you to look up to. My hero is MercyMe; they’re a Christian/Rock Band. There are five members in MercyMe and they are: Mike Scheuchzer (guitar), Robby Shaffer (drums), Nathan Cochran (bass), Jim Bryson (Keyboards), and Bart Millard (vocals).

The band first started with Bart. After his first semester of college and his dad died from cancer, he moved to Lakeland, Florida. Bart’s youth pastor asked him to help work on a praise band and Bart loved it. Soon he paired up with Jim and Mike; they joined him in August of '94. Later on Nathan and Robby joined MercyMe, based in Dallas, TX.

They are my hero because of many things, mainly for their hit single “I Can Only Imagine.” They have recently just won three Dove awards for their hit single. Another reason why they are my hero is because of their songs. Their songs are very cool and there is something about them that draws you to listen to more of their songs. Even through they only have two CDs out, they are still known by many people.

Bart is the main writer for their songs; Robby also does some of the songs but not as much as Bart does. Bart wrote “I Can Only Imagine” just after his dad died. He wrote it while he was wondering what his dad was doing in heaven. He also thought what it would be like to walk with his dad or Jesus or someone up there.

I recommend that anyone reading this piece should listen to MercyMe. They should because their songs can get anyone to go to church just like how they did for me.
