Mia Hamm

My hero is Mia Hamm. Mia Hamm is a professional soccer player. I am studying her because I want to know how she accomplished her dream of playing soccer. I think a hero is someone that helps out in the world and gives back to the world also. Mia is my hero because I look up to her for following her dreams. She has done some amazing things for our world.

Mia’s early life was good. She has 5 siblings. When she was 8, she got a new brother. His name was Garret Hamm but in 1997 he died of a bone marrow disease. Mia was sad and she didn’t want to talk to anyone about it. Then a couple months later she started to feel better. Her team was helpful and then she broke out of what she was going through. Mia says that her brother was her hero because he fought his disease till the day that he died. She is now married to a Red Sox short stop.

She struggled through her brother’s death in 1997. She pushed her way through it and tried to forget about it but it made things harder for her. One day she decided that she was going to make the best of a bad situation.

Mia plays soccer for the University of North Carolina. She was good enough to play in the world cup is because she practiced so much that she got really good so her coach let her play. In High School she played for Notre Dame. Some of Mia’s life goals are and were to become a professional soccer player. Also she wanted to win the world cup and she did in 1995, 1999, 1990, and 1993.

Mia’s accomplishments are that she opened the Mia Hamm Foundation for kids with bone marrow disease. The Mia Hamm Foundation helps children who have bone marrow disease. She was the youngest member of the women’s soccer team. Her team won 4 world cups since she started to play soccer.

Mia is important to me because she helps kids in need with bone marrow disease. She also followed her dream to do what she wanted to do. I think she has made a difference in the women’s soccer team because she does not want them as a team to fall apart and she helps them stay together as a team. She has made our world a better place by helping out kids with the bone marrow disease.
