My Mother

by Charlene from Oklahoma

“A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” “A boy doesn't have to go to war to be a hero; he can say he doesn't like pie."

My mother is a worker, a daughter, and a friend. She works hard at any job she does, and gives it her best. She stood up to her exhusband. They were married for eight years, and he was abusive. She took me and my two siblings and got us back on our feet. My mother has seen a lot of hard challenges, but has overcome them. I love my mom. She is everything I want to be. She is kind, strong, and an amazing mother. My mother is like a diamond in the rough, a little polish and she will shine.

I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life. ~Abraham Lincoln

Some mothers are kissing mothers and some are scolding mothers, but it is love just the same, and most mothers kiss and scold together. ~Pearl S. Buck

The real religion of the world comes from women much more than from men - from mothers most of all, who carry the key of our souls in their bosoms. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

Calls back the lovely April of her prime.
~William Shakespeare

Are heard in Mother, Home, and Heaven.~William Goldsmith Brown

Hundreds of dewdrops to greet the dawn,
Hundreds of bees in the purple clover,
Hundreds of butterflies on the lawn,
But only one mother the wide world over.
~George Cooper

My mother buys food for the table instead of buying something she wants. My mother makes sure there is enough money for the roof over our heads and the meal in our bellies. She stretches what we have so we always have enough. When my mother left her husband we had nowhere to go, but my mother found us a place and we got on our feet. She always knows what to say.

A mother is the greatest hero a person can have even if they don't see it. A mother will stand by her child even when all the odds are against her.

I remember my mom stopped for gas when we were on our way home one day, as she would any ordinary day. A homeless man was sitting by one of the pay phones, he was old and thin. He looked as if he had not eaten in days. My mom had been driving and we were hungry. She bought sandwiches for us. As we were walking to our truck we could hear the old man asking for money from people who passed. My mom stopped and walked over to him. I remember hearing her say to him she would not give him money because she did not want him buying drugs instead of food, instead she gave him her sandwich. That day I say my mom for the hero she is.
