When people think of the word hero they think of people like Superman or Spiderman. Well it turns out nobody really has superpowers. I know, what a downer that is. However, a true hero to me is someone who fights for what they believe in and never gives up. Or someone who loves something to such an extent that they are willing to risk their lives for it. Those are the type of personalities I look up to. That reminds me of the man I will be writing about. My history teacher, Mr. Durlin Ancelet.
Mr. Ancelet is by far the best history teacher I have ever had in my entire life. I believe that he is an excellent history teacher because there is no better way to learn about history and government than to actually be a part of it. Mr. Ancelet at first seems a bit outside of the box. However, when you actually get to know him everything he says has a specific meaning, but he still seems a bit off. He really knows how to teach history in depth. He also knows how to crack a joke every so often when you're having a bad day.
Another fact about Mr. Ancelet is that he is a war veteran. That is why he is one of my heroes, because he fought for what he believed in and he fought for our protection risking his life. He is a true hero, well in my view. I'm not quite sure why he decided to be a teacher, yet he is excellent at it. I am lucky enough to have him as a homeroom teacher so my whole mood for the day begins in his class.
Mr. Ancelet always has a different quote to say everyday. An odd thing he tends to say often is "Fly me to the moon". I have to admit, it’s a bit lost. In addition to that, every time we have a timed test or competition, to signal us that we can begin he bangs an enormous stick on his podium or on a desk.
I asked Mr. Ancelet a few questions to see his views about the military. When I asked him what emotions he had during his years of serving, he stated that he was "proud to serve the United States". He also said he joined the army because his father and grandfather were in the service. Another reason he decided to join was to do something different one summer. I asked him if he would consider serving again. His response was that he would. Overall, I think Mr. Durlin Ancelet is a caring, courageous guy, and my hero.
