I bloomed!
I bloomed!

Ms. Herring is my hero because she helped me realize my potential. She was my 5th grade teacher. She was born in Port Arthur, Texas, and lived there for six months before moving to Houston. She lived in Houston until she was thirteen and then moved again. Ms. Herring moved seven times in her childhood and attended two junior highs and three high schools. She lived in seven cities growing up: Houston, Texas; Dallas, Texas; Ann Arbor, Michigan; San Francisco, California; Atlanta, Georgia; New Orleans, Louisiana and Plano, Texas.

Ms. Herring wanted to become a teacher because she believes God placed a desire in her heart to become a teacher. Her students inspire her with their passion for learning and they give her ideas. When Ms. Herring was a girl she took vacations to historic places and had a great teacher. That’s why she likes history so much. She also loves to shop for costumes in her spare time. Ms. Herring loves history and always loses her glasses.

One of her former students, McKinney, thought Ms. Herring was one of the closest teachers to her; it felt like a best friend was teaching. Ms. Herring was really funny, too! McKinney thought Ms. Herring mixed the facts of learning with fun in a great way. (I think so too!) She made McKinney feel like she was Clara Barton and the costumes at Night at the Museum were great! McKinney’s favorite subject was history and Ms. Herring made learning fun. Best friends don’t have to be kids.

Another student, Lily, thought that Ms. Herring was more of a family member than a teacher. She went the extra mile for anyone who needed it. (I think so too!) She was a very interactive teacher and was hands-on with projects. She does so much teaching in a fun way. There was always something fun to go along with the work we did. (I think so too!) Lily’s favorite thing in 5th grade was Night at the Museum, when students could become a person in history for that night. Lily also liked writing and performing the play, “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.” Ms. Herring took her students to Camp Classen where we got to spend time with friends for a week and had a lot of fun. Lily’s favorite subject was history and reading novels. Ms. Herring helped everyone grow as a person and sparked Lily’s interest in history.

I can fly with Ms. Herring's help! (http://www.elfwood.com/)

Another student, Pryor, thought Ms. Herring was nice and funny. She was Pryor’s favorite teacher. Ms. Herring teaches with great enthusiasm and wants her students to learn. Pryor’s favorite subject was history and his favorite memory was Camp Classen. Ms. Herring taught Pryor to enjoy life, school, and history.

Ms. Herring inspires me in so many ways. I often would stay after school and she would tell me how I was doing in school. It seemed that Ms. Herring always had something good to say. She was very positive about me. Ms. Herring wasn’t that kind of teacher who you were afraid of, she is a person who you could talk to. She is more than a teacher, she is a good friend. She is a good artist and there was always a new picture on the board every first day of a new month. She had a ton of colors. I liked coming in early and talking to her. It was fun and we had great conversations. She is good at understanding what I had to say. I agree with the former students about Ms. Herring. I feel like I can take off and fly with Ms. Herring’s help. You are a friend for life and I will always come back to talk. THANK YOU MS. HERRING, for everything! You’re everything I could want in a teacher and you will always have a special place in my heart.
