Neil Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon. With years of hard work and dedication, he finally got sent as commander of the first manned mission to the moon. With the help of his fellow astronauts he was able to reach new heights in science. In his life he did many great things that lead to his great accomplishment such as stopping his studies to be a pilot, and being part of the navy, working for NASA, and even teaching at the university. He shows the world what a true hero is with all the great and inspirational actions he's taken.
Neil Armstrong had many great accomplishments in his life that made him a hero. Everything he had done in life had led to his huge accomplishment on the moon. At a young age he was fascinated with flight, he earned his pilot license at the age of 16. With his abilities he was later called up to serve in the Korean War. During his time there he had flew through 78 combat missions and managed to come back in one piece. After his services he joined NASA where he would eventually be sent as commander on the first manned mission to the moon. He and his two fellow astronauts were all sent on the journey that could have been a new level of science. They landed on the moon on the day of July 20th 1969 at 10:56 P:M. Once they reached their destination Neil Armstrong took his first few steps, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind."-Neil Armstrong. This quote explains how one little action can have such a big impact on the world. He's acknowledging the human race and how later in the future mankind will be able to take things further than the moon and learn much more. This makes him a hero because he's not only wise but knew to put faith in mankind with science.
Being an astronaut wasn't the only thing Neil Armstrong was. He was a determined man who still made more accomplishments after his huge step for man. In his personal life, Armstrong started to settle down. He married Janet Shearon on January 28, 1956. Their son Eric arrived in 1957, followed daughter Karen in 1959. Sadly, Karen died of complications related to an inoperable brain tumor in January 1962. The following year, the Armstrongs welcomed their third child whose name was Mark. All this happened before his career at NASA and he was able to get past this and continue his successful life. After moving on from NASA, he joined the faculty of the University of Cincinnati to teach aerospace engineering which he was always studying as a youngster. Eventually he served as the chairman of Computing Technologies for Aviation, Inc., from 1982 to 1992. Even after all this he later served as vice chairman of the Presidential Commission on the space shuttle Challenger accident in 1986. I think all these careers after his success at NASA makes him even more of a hero. This is because he was determined to keep going where most people would stop, Its amazing how his entire life played a small part in turning him into an astronaut and he later used his acquired knowledge to become even more successful before his death. "Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink." This is what his family had to say after his death, this shows what Neil Armstrong was really about all along: to leave a mark on the world and still live a normal life by helping the world with both science and education.

Through his actions, Armstrong influenced people to stay determined to accomplish their goals. This is what a true hero is because he proves to the world to never give up, he inspires people to follow in his footsteps and go all the way to reach their goals. Without people like Neil Armstrong, the entire world of science would be different and full of mystery. Without his hard work and dedication we would have never learned so much about the moon. A true hero like Neil Armstrong deserves recognition for being humble and showing true genius.
