Nick Jonas

by Alix from Chicago

For many people when they see Nicholas Jonas or his brothers they see a hopeless rock star heartthrob, but to me he is my hero because of his loving and compassionate attitude towards others. Nicholas Jonas, the youngest in the famous trio known as the Jonas Brothers, was diagnosed with type one diabetes in 2002, and has learned how to monitor his intake of certain foods and stay safe. At the age of sixteen Nick is living his dream by playing music for thousands of people. However, for him it is not just about music, more so about reaching out to kids, showing God’s love, and telling them that no matter what happens in their lives they should always follow their dreams. Even though he has diabetes, he does not let it slow him down in life. Nick always has a positive attitude towards everything and everyone and almost never thinks about him or what he goes through. When he feels down or all alone he remembers that God and his family care about him, and sometimes he might even write a song.

Besides his struggle with diabetes, Nick has partnered up with Bayer and the Simple Wins foundation to help be a positive inspiration for kids that suffer from various diseases. He has also started a charity called Change for the Children Foundation which donates money to help find cures for different diseases and helps take care of kids in hospitals such as St. Jude’s Hospital. With him being in the spotlight a lot of the time for all these positive things he does, he also gets ridiculed for his beliefs and wearing a purity ring. On countless occasions Nick and his brothers, Joe and Kevin, have been mocked for their Christian beliefs and their purity rings. Even though they are horribly teased about God and purity they do not let it bother them. Nick says he is very proud of being a Christian and wearing a ring to symbolize purity till marriage and he will not let anyone change him. Two of my favorite quotes that he says is this "It doesn't matter if the world is pulling you down. With Christ you have everything. “And “Live like you’re at the bottom even if you’re at the top.” Nick does not let anything faze him and always remembers that God and family are the most important things in life, even when you’re famous.
