Nas Jones

by Kashawn from Wyandanch, New York

My hero is Nasir Jones known as Nas. Nas is my hero because he is inspiring to me. Nas was born September 14, 1973 in Long Island City, N.Y. He was raised by his father, jazz musician Olu Dara, and his late mother Ann Jones. Nas grew up in the rough section of Queens’s called, Queens’s Bridge Projects. Other music greats such as Marley Marl and the Juice Crew are also from there. Nas dropped out of school in the eighth grade. I read that “he traded classrooms for the streets.”

He uses a lot of rhymes in his music. Nas was signed to the Columbia Records label. Then the music industry found out what everybody else already knew, that his music was worth listening to. That is why he is my hero.
