In the film and story, a hero is the one who stands out for people suffering from pain or injustice. As for the real world, I think Nelson Mandela, a courageous person caring about human rights for people around the world, is absolutely a great hero. Mandela was born in South Africa in 1918. When he was still a student, he studied in schools following the British system, where he found that the treatment was very different between Black and White. Being black, his freedom was strictly limited. The bad experience in his boyhood then inspired him to take action for reducing racial discrimination.
To fulfill his ideal, Mandela joined the African National Congress, devoting himself to abolishing the apartheid system in South Africa in a peaceful way. However, he might not become such a great man without experiencing the misery of being sent to prison in 1964, for his action had already become a threat to the government. Confined to the jail with small space and no liberty, he could easily feel depressed and hopeless. He didn't give in to fate, though. On the contrary, he persevered with accomplishing his dream. After 27 years, Mandela was released from prison with people's admiration. In 1994, he was elected president of South Africa. Policies about removing discrimination and promoting human rights were carried out during his term of office, making South Africa a country where people share equal treatment, regardless of gender, race, or color. The venerable hero died in 2013, but his story of succeeding over pain will continue to inspire people all over the world.
