Nelson Mandela was an influential president of South Africa as well as a beloved husband and father. Nelson Mandela was born on July 18, 1918. He served time in prison for 27 years and was released on February 11, 1990. Then four years later with trial and tribulations he then became the President of South Africa from 1994 through the year 1999. Nelson Mandela had three children he loved and took care of after his imprisonment.

Nelson Mandela was a strong willed African man who served his country by standing up for what he believed in. Nelson Mandela was an influential man that has showed his honor and integrity to not only his country but as well as he showed the entire world that he would do whatever it took to help his country get independence. “Nelson Mandela was released on February 11, 1990. After his release he plunged himself wholeheartedly into his life’s work” (World Book Online Nathan Jackson). With showing his dedication to what he believed in and his hope and dreams were to be fulfilled. Also with him being dedicated to his work even while he spent his time in jail he would keep up with his countries day to day events. Nelson Mandela was an educated man who was accepted by all people. “He was widely accepted as the most significant black leader in South Africa and became a potent symbol of resistance as the anti-apartheid movement gathered strength” (Encyclopedia South African Congress). With being widely accepted by most people he was able to become the first black president of South Africa. Nelson Mandela was accepted by all people because most people believed that he would be able to help them and he had shown other groups of people to help out of dire situations.

Nelson Mandela was a man who would not take no for an answer. With this mindset I would say that Nelson Mandela was very inspirational. After leaving Fort Hare Mandela moved to Johannesburg. “After leaving Fort Hare, Mandela moved to Johannesburg- partly to escape a traditional tribal arranged marriage –and he found work as a guard at a mine” (PBS reporter). By going to set a new life he started his post jail career and soon became a guard at a mine in Johannesburg and by doing this it showed the people that he had made some mistakes and he was new man after his unjustified jail time. Also because he was a guard at the mine his main classification was that he had some previous amateur boxing career which was important to the man that hired him because in the case in which he would be able to fend off individual abominable. Nelson Mandela was an educated man and he was able to use his practice of law in his political act. “He then studied law at the University of Witwatersrand. In 1952, he passed the qualifying exam to practice law” (World Book Student, Christopher Saunders). By being a well educated man he also was able to open the first black law partnership in South Africa. His partner was a man named Oliver Tambo. By being the first all black partnership with Oliver gave him the opportunity to work with a man that had much more experience in law than Nelson himself.

Nelson Mandela is a hero to me because even though that he may think of things at a higher way we still both want equal rights for both white and black people. It really moved me by hearing and learning that to try to get his point known through Africa he tried to cross borders illegally and tried to spread his message. Even though his message was not taken in by all people he was taken to jail because of his act towards not only his own country but as well as neighboring ones as well, and the fact that he went to jail because he stood up for he believed in.
