Nelson Mandela

Nelson Mandela was born in Africa on July 18, 1918 in Umtata, Africa. He went to school at the South African Native College (now the University of Fort Hare) and the University of South Africa. He became interested in politics and other things like that. Mandela joined a group of people called the ANC. The ANC called for equality for all races and began leading open resistance to the government. And right after that Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Soon the government put him in prison but in 1961 he was freed for equal rights. Almost exactly straight after that, Nelson Mandela was elected president.
