Nelson Mandela

I think that Nelson Mandela is a hero because he was the first black president of South Africa. Moreover he was a person devoted to the others. He had great things and he was brave, heroic, courageous and determined. For him, all people are equal. Furthermore, he participated in the Africa Nation Congress that's why received many awards. The most important is not to have violence in the country.

Nelson Mandela was born on July, 18th, 1918, in Mvezo, Transkei, South Africa. He was famous because he was the first South African black president. Moreover he was a leader of the African National Congress (ANC) it was a party which opposed the white government and apartheid. Apartheid was a system of racial discrimination. In 1962, he was arrested and stayed in prison on Robben Island for 27 years. After that, Mandela was liberated on February, 11th, 1990. Later on, Nelson Mandela and Frederik Willem de Klerk who was the South Africa's last white president, together they combined efforts to end apartheid. As a result both men received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Then black South Africans were allowed to vote for the first time in 1993 and Nelson Mandela became the nation's first black president. Sadly Nelson Mandela retired from presidency in 1999. In 2009, Mandela's birthday was declared "Mandela Day" to promote global peace and celebrate the South African leader's legacy. Then Mandela died at his home in Johannesburg on December, 5th, in 2013, at age 95 from a lung illness.

To conclude, Nelson Mandela is my hero because he always fights for human rights and fight against segregation and differences between skin colors. Also because he said all countries need equality. He was a person heroic that's why nobody forgot.
