My Lincoln hero is Mr. Nelson Mandela, a South African first black president who united all South Africans politically, socially and economically without considering their races. South Africa was divided were by the Indians, colored, whites and black weren’t equally treated.
Politically Mandela was an anti-apartheid activist. Many people were arrested, including himself Mandela, Oliver Tambo and others who were charged with treason. They weren’t given a chance to express themselves before the court of law. Unfair trial was common in courts.
Many black people were jailed for life and others were executed due to participating in political parties and attending party conferences. People were not allowed to come together to express their feelings and ideas. Should you come out in public and speak about the consequences that everyone was unhappy about, you could lose your life or be jailed. People were kept silent and not given a chance to talk. Black political parties who wanted to host a conference were sometimes burned. Restrictions were imposed on many black political parties such as the ANC (African National Congress) and many others.
Mandela is a hero like Lincoln because he sacrificed all his life (although in jail) fighting for his people to have freedom. He never accepted offers where his fellow black people and others could suffer. “He wanted everybody to be treated equally despite the colour and origin because we are all the same people.” Relating to the great man to Lincoln, all of them wanted peace, unity and freedom in their countries.
Mandela is great man and respected everywhere because of his desires, determination and social characters, he was given a great name “MADIBA” meaning the great hero. He said that, “South Africa belongs to all people who live in it and therefore should be given equal rights and freedom no matter the colour, origin and race”.
Socially, Mandela united all South Africans and also made it safer for all international community. It led South Africa to host the 2010 world cup. He is a social person who likes sports very much. He is always associating with sports people such as soccer players, boxers and many others. Every his birthday is celebrated with sports activities such as soccer. Teams like Manchester United of England and Leeds have been seen here in South Africa playing tournament to mark and celebrate Madiba’s birthday.
He is a Hero and a person for all people, most especially the young people. His love and care towards youth in South Africa led to the formation of Mandela Children’s Foundation to help and support all South African young people who are suffering. Every year he donates millions of rands and supports many youth orphans in South Africa. His foundation has been recognized through him by many companies in South Africa such banks and communication companies who donate and fundraised money to help his foundation.
Economically Mandela is a great hero of which people of South Africa do admire and respect very much because he made the black people to be what they are today. During the apartheid era, black people living in locations by facilities like roads and hospitals were scarce. They were restricted to go to big cities and conduct businesses.
Today black people own business, work in high posts in the government like the post of president and vice president. This has come into effect since Mandela brought peace, freedom in this country. During the apartheid error, Black people were not allowed to work in high posts. This was because of their race and education background. Many of them never got good education and that’s why they could not compete for high paying jobs.
In addition to that, the credit system has been simplified. A number of government aid funding bodies have established to improve on the economy of South Africa. These financial institutions do fund black owned businesses or businesses whereby 35% is own by black persons. The Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) program has really had a positive effect whereby it only emphasizes the disadvantaged black people to participate and acquired access to all funding to start a business. Many black people do now own businesses due to the BEE program.
In conclusion my Lincoln hero Nelson Mandela has had a positive impact on account for economic, political and social ways of life to people in South Africa and the world at large.
