Nellie was an average girl until she was about 9 years old when she Began to question a woman’s place in the law, and in general society. When she was younger she was at a picnic and she wanted to race with all of the boys, but her mom said no because her legs would show! She was very disappointed and decided to look into it more.

Nellie again |
When Nellie was researching and fighting her cause, she found out that the British North Act defined Persons as men. She decided to name her cause “The Persons Case." She also wrote 16 books, two autobiographies and many articles. One of her many quotes that stood out to me was “Be a Voice For The Voiceless And a Defender For The Defenseless.” She saw a lot of examples of men abusing their wives and children and drinking away all of their fortunes. She also saw a lot of wives and children go hungry because the man would have spent all their money on cigarettes and liqueur.
In 1921 she completed her cause and was elected to legislature and served 5 years. She was one of the founders of Political Equality League. In Canada, The United States and England, Nellie promoted married women’s property rights, better care for school and children and also mother’s allowances.
