When the world first met Nick they knew he had been through something very big but they did not know what until he told them. Nick was born with no arms or legs and they did not know why. They knew that it wasn't a medical problem. He was simply just born with no limbs. He has a brother and a sister and they both have arms and legs. He was just the only one but that did not stop him and this is why. When Nick was born, during the birth his dad was watching and saw his head and right shoulder and his face turned pale. He almost fainted. He had to walk out of the room. He did not want his wife to see the baby like that and after the birth the doctor walked out to tell him the news. Before the doctor said anything he said my son was born with no right arm and the doctor said no your son was born with no arms or legs and his dad just fell to the ground. He could not believe what had just heard that was what he thought to be the worst news ever. Nick's mom did not want to hold or breastfeed him for the first four months but she did. They were just very uncomfortable and could not understand why.

They did not understand why God made the pastor's son like this, why he took away what everyone else had. They couldn't make sense of it and they did not think that they should have to and they didn't. As he got older it became a lot harder. Everything was a challenge for him and his parents could see that he was starting to realize that and there was nothing that they could do about it. They felt helpless. Nick said that they did not let him feel sorry for himself about something that he cannot change about himself so he didn't and he did get picked on at school but he did not let that get him down. He ignored it because he knew that he couldn't change it and that he was the same as everyone else but it got worse he was age eight and could not see the point in life and couldn't see himself having a future and became very depressed.

At age ten Nick decided to take his life by drowning himself in the bathtub. He told his parents that he just wanted to take a relaxing bath so they put him in the bathtub and left after a few attempts of drowning himself. He couldn't do it. He thought about how much it would hurt his parents and how they would blame themselves for what happened and he didn't want that. He couldn't hurt them like that so he did not go through with it. That was the first and last time that Nick tried to commit suicide but there were still plenty of times that he had a lot hard things to deal with and times when he would want to end the pain..One day Nick's mother had read him a story about a severely disabled man and that had a huge impact on Nick. Had helped him realize that he had a choice. He can either be angry about what he doesn't have or he can be happy about what he does have - his family and his faith and both of those things were very important to Nick and he did not want to lose that. Nick found no point on being complete on the outside if you are broken on the inside. Nick found that it was so hard to be strong when people are always telling you that you are not good enough, go away, we don't want anything to do with you. He remembered that his mom told him in life if you don't know the truth then you can't be free because then you will start believing all of the lies so that really helped him through getting picked on because he knew that none of what they were saying was the truth. Nick learned from all of that so he forgave and forgot. Nick started to realize that when he was older at the age of twenty that were a lot of people like him with this problem. So he was doing a lot better until it really hit him at age twenty-three. Nick realized that he had never had a girlfriend, never been in love, and he didn't think that he ever would. He wanted a wife and son and a family of his own but the more he thought about the more he thought it was impossible.

Nick then met the love of his life and he was absolutely amazed and overwhelmed with joy because he did not think that he would get to have that in his life and now that he does he is so happy.
