Neil Peart

by Steven from St. Louis

Neil Peart is a great person. He survived two major losses and has learned many things from his experiences. He was able to get in touch with his creative side. He is a great person for people to look up to. He showed that no matter what happens, you can come out a better person.

Neil Peart is the drummer for a band named Rush. Neil has been with Rush since 1975. He has been through much in his life. I believe that he is the greatest percussionist of all time. Neil has been through two tragedies and come out a changed person. Neil suffered two tragedies in close succession. Neil lost his daughter, Selena, to a car accident on August 9, 1997, which affected him and his wife very emotionally. Neil’s wife, Jackie, slipped into a deep depression from mourning for hr daughter and died from cancer only ten months after Selena’s death. Neil said to his band mates that they should considered him retired. This was a hard year for Neil.

Neil went on a healing journey that lasted two years. Neil rode his BMW motorcycle across North America. He began his journey as a loner. His family and friends wondered if he would succumb to his losses like his wife did. This was a real life-changing episode for Neil.

Neil came back from his Journey a changed man. He returned to Rush five years after his losses. Rush went on to release their album Vapor Trails. Neil remarried to Carrie Nuttal on September 9, 2000. He writes the lyrics to most of the Rush songs, many of which are deep and have a lot of feeling. Neil is now a calm and serious person and puts a lot of his emotions into his work. Neil was able to make good in his life out of bad.

Neil went through an almost unbearable time in his life and came out with his head up high. He survived two losses that some people could probably never recover from. If you were to have many losses in your life, you should pull through and realize that you can start over, that it is not all over for you, just like Neil did. It doesn’t matter how long it takes you to bounce back, as long as you do. Neil is a great inspiration to those who have lost their family members in some sort of accident.
