Nepali Woman and Her Goat
by Robin Wethe Altman
Painting
This is a poster/logo/icon that I created for Rosalind Russell in Laguna Beach California. She has a Foundation called the "R Star Foundation" that provides women in Nepal with goats so that they can make a business of selling the goats' milk and cheese made from the milk. Since I was newly divorced and facing the challenge of supporting myself entirely for the first time in my life at age 55, I could relate to these women who needed to find a way to support themselves too. Many of them lost husbands in the wars that go on there. This project has helped to prove that women can take care of themselves and their children and that they are not a burden to society, but a great asset. I'd like to create more posters like this one for causes that help support people and the planet. These women are my heroes because they are learning new skills and finding out that they can be good business women and take care of their family's needs. Rosalind Russell is also my hero for starting this project that not only provides goats for women in Nepal, but creates schools, peace projects and much more. Rosalind was recently honored at a "My Hero" event in Laguna Beach. That's where I presented her with this painting.
