Ever since I was a little boy, I always considered my dad as my hero. My dads name is Oscar Gomez, just like mine. He was born in Zacatecas, Zacatecas. My father is average height and thin. He is a hard working man and is good at what he does whether it's working or raising his kids. I plan to follow his footsteps and learn from his experiences.
When I was 9 years old he started making me help him out around the yard. For example, the day he told me to help him put concrete on our drive-way. I hated the idea of doing chores at a young age. All of my friends were out playing and having fun. Why did I have to do his stupid chores? At first I didn't understand why he had me help him, when I knew he could do it himself. It took me several years to realize he was doing it for my own good. He would always tell me to stay in school and get a good education because this is the kind of work I would be doing if I wouldn't take advantage of my opportunities. I will always thank him for that.
My dad is the reason why I enjoy playing sports. I remember watching Monday Night Football with him every Monday. He would explain to me how the game of football was played. He would even explain to me the rules. From football he went on to soccer. I enjoyed soccer more because it seemed more interesting to me. Thanks to him I understand what sports mean to people. If it was not for my dad and sports I could have been on a bad road towards my future.
When I was younger, about 5, I don't have any memories involving my dad because he had to work 2 shifts in order to support our family. Things got a little easier for my dad when my mom got her first job. He did not have to work as hard. When we had more time for us, I remember going to the lake or to a community pool together. He was the one that taught me how to swim. At first I was scared, but he helped me get over my fear. I have a lot of thanks towards my dad.
