The Holocaust was a terrible tragedy. Murder to millions of poor, helpless people. History frequently blames the Nazis for inflicting this terrible genocide upon Jewish people, homosexuals, and people with disabilities. They are almost right. But there was one shining star among the corrupted hearts of the Nazi party, one who saved over a thousand Jewish lives and wasted his fortune keeping them from his evil comrades. Someone had to do it, no group of people is heartless like the devil himself, give it up for Oskar Schindler!
This savior of more than a thousand lives was made somewhere; Not Germany, like a good deal of other people before WWII, but in the Czech Republic, (It was Czechoslovakia at the time). He was rolling in dough when he was born, and was in the Catholic sect of the church. He was married at nineteen and when the second war came a-calling, he dove into Poland's black market and was almost as a warrior of bribery, hitting the right spot with the local contraband bosses. At times, he was one face in the dozens of European industrialists, making money and was living on the gravy train.
But then, something changed, Germany invaded Poland, killing Jewish people and other "unwanteds", their businesses also fell victims to the abuse of riots and stormings. The surviving buildings then were "bought" by German investors, such as our very own Oskar Schindler. After "Buying" three factories for making tooth supplies, he began amassing Jewish workers in one company, known as Emalia, along with other Germans. When a former nearby prison camp (Plaszow), was changed into a concentration camp, he asked for his factory to become a subsidiary, allowing him to house approximately four-hundred fifty extra Jews from the savagery and cruelty that was Plaszow. Later, his workers were relocated to the main camp. Panicked, Oskar Schindler got permission to move his factory to another concentration camp and change his business from enamelware to ammunition. However, a factory is nothing without a workforce and, soon one of Schindler's secretaries made a good deal of lists of about one-thousand two-hundred that were required in the factory. Oskar Schindler managed to meet the specifications needed to insure the survival of about eight hundred men and four hundred women. The factory was dysfunctional by Nazi standards and should have been taken down; but they weren't to know that. How? He made up the numbers; fudged everyone he did. Just to save his lists of people. In the end, he fled from the camp only when the Russians were invading.
Oskar Schindler died without a penny to spare after travelling to America and losing his wife. But, his memory lived on through the people saved. Eventually leading to his corpse to be moved to Israel, the home of those he protected. Remembered through social media; websites, books, and even a movie, his actions will never be forgotten by the remnants of the one thousand two hundred Jewish people. He sacrificed everything to help others in need and hopefully, was rewarded up there equally. In the end, Oskar Schindler may have been a briber and a womanizer, but he saved over a thousand people because it simply was the right thing.
