“The whole point of being alive is to evolve into the complete person you were intended to be”. These words from Oprah Winfrey have made her life the way it is now. From talk shows to building schools she has done lots. Oprah Winfrey has one of the most influential voices reaching to people all over the world; she has helped the lives of people, and has helped change the world.

Even though Oprah had a really bad childhood, she has worked hard to become the woman she is now. When Oprah was born on January 29, 1954 in Mississippi she had absolutely no money. Her parents got divorced once she was born and she was left to be raised by her grandmother. Through her childhood her cousins, relatives, and their friends abused her, but somehow she managed to get through all that. When she turned 16 she knew exactly what she wanted to do. She wanted to help.

Thinking about her childhood and how she had no money, she decided to help poor people. One way she did that was by building a school south of Johannesburg in South Africa. The school was opened to teach girls with disadvantages and to give 152 girls from less fortunate backgrounds a good education. Africa is one of those countries where schools are struggling to overcome their problems and by building a school she has helped them. After she finished building that school she also planned to open another one for boys and girls in South Africa.

She has also done some other generous things to help people out. She founded Oprah’s Angel Network to encourage people to make a positive difference in their lives. “This network has built 55 schools in 12 countries providing education for thousands of children in rural areas throughout the world.” She also gave $1000 to 300 of the members in her audience to give it to the charity of their choice. Oprah also helped design a shoe for a charity case to benefit cancer awareness and research.

As an African American woman in the United States, Oprah has come a long way. She was the first African American woman to be a billionaire in America. She was also the 3rd woman in history to own a major studio, and she was Nashville’s first female and African American TV news anchor in 1971.

From being abused at childhood with no money to becoming one of the wealthiest people in the world Oprah has come a very long way. She has built schools all around the world and has donated tons of money to charities and researches. Oprah has helped lots of people all around the world and she has been an amazing hero for many people.
