What is a hero? Probably a parent, or a movie star. Well, another name to put on a list of heroes would be Oprah Winfrey. Over the course of her life she has contributed her name and public image to make a difference in the world.

It’s amazing what Oprah accomplished in school with her many challenges. Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on January 29th, 1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi. When Oprah was too little to remember her mother moved to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to find work. Oprah was forced to stay with her grandma on the farm while her mother was gone. At the age of six her grandmother became ill and she had to move, and live with her mother in Milwaukee. Growing up Oprah’s mother was hard on her and was pushing for her education. Oprah enjoyed reading very much and could read and write when she was in kindergarten; in the middle kindergarten the teachers decided to put Oprah into first grade. Before completing her first grade year she moved to Nashville, Tennessee with her dad and began to go to the Wharton Elementary School and skipped another grade for the second time. Later at Lincoln Middle an English teacher recognized her amazing reading ability. He was able to transfer her to the Nicolet High School an all white school. Oprah was quoted as saying, "In 1968 it was real hip to know a black person, so I was very popular." After all the frequent adjustments during her childhood years she was able to succeed in school.

After graduating from Tennessee State College she pursued a career in journalism. Her first job was as an anchor at WTVF-TV in Nashville. In 1984 Oprah got her big break and was a television host for “AM Chicago.” A year after she started, the show became the number one television show on air. Later it became “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” Oprah’s show was the number one highest ranked, and successful T.V. show to be broadcasted. As her television show was taking off Oprah still had a love for journalism and reading. Oprah started “Oprah’s Book Club” that is when her woman fans, and viewers recommend books, and Oprah wrote a few herself and shared them with her fans. As you can see Oprah accomplished many of her goals and showed her enjoyments as a television host, and journalist.

Over the course of several years Oprah started a personal crusade to help others. One venture was to help girls in South Africa. On January 2, 2007, Oprah cut the rope for the newly built school in South Africa to help poor, and homeless girls learn. That hot day in 2007 when Oprah cut the rope to the newly build school in South Africa, she brightened the faces of many girls that day and opened doors for girls to learn. Through her actions on that monumental day, she showed the world that she cares and is a sensational hero.

Helping people in need has been a life calling to Opera. Oprah has funded the Angel Network. This organization helps people in need. Oprah has done so many good things and she is telling us that it may not be easy but we can all make a difference in the world one step at a time.

Oprah is an amazing role model to many people, but a hero to the world. Through her years of hard work and perseverance during difficult times she has been a person to admire and look up to! Oprah is a role model to many people and that is because Oprah is a individual Individual success, contribution to the world Additionally, she is a hero to all the people she assisted in creating a better life! She has touched the hearts of many people through the organizations she help create. She is a true hero! Oprah Winfrey has taken many outstanding actions to help our world and to make differences in peoples lives. Oprah has a gift of giving and helping others. That is what makes her an amazing hero!
