INTRODUCTION
"A
hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to preserve and
endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles."(Christopher
Reeve) This quote says that a hero is just like everyone else. They
don't give up because of the obstacles they face. They overcome them
and still accomplish what they are striving for. My hero is Oprah
Winfrey. She faced a lot of obstacles as a child and she kept moving
forward and never looked back.
My Hero Is Larger Than Life
Oprah
is very well-known for her talk show, the Oprah Winfrey Show. In less
than a year after airing for the first time, her show was watched all
over the world. The show touched a lot of lives and was
inspirational to many people in the world. Oprah was one of three
women that owned their own studio. Oprah is a very giving person
because she shares her wealth with others. Oprah has given clothes,
shoes and food to children in Africa. She also built a school for
girls in Africa. Oprah is the perfect example of someone that knows
it is better to give than to receive.

My Hero Went On A Journey
It
is important to know that Oprah grew up on a farm with her
grandmother in Mississippi and she didn't
grow up
wealthy. When her grandmother got ill she went to live with her
mother. That did not work out and her father raised her. Oprah's journey
was very long and painful. At the age of nine through thirteen she
was raped. At the age of fourteen she became pregnant. She tried to
commit suicide. She had
the baby, but he passed away two weeks after he was born. Other
obstacles Oprah faced were social, personal, political, and physical.
Oprah's personal obstacle was when she was raped. Her social
obstacle was trying to get people to watch and like her show. One of
her political obstacles was when she testified on behalf of the
National Child Protection Act. The physical obstacles was her weight
issues. These are just four of her obstacles and there are many more.
Oprah would have never overcome these obstacles if it wasn't for her
grandmother who made her learn to read and write before she attended
school. Oprah knew her life journey would be different. When she was
six years old, Oprah watched her grandmother hand-wash clothes on the
back porch and thought to herself, "My life will not be like
this."
My Hero Accomplished Something for Her People
Oprah
had many accomplishments. The Oprah Winfrey Show was very
inspirational to a lot of people. She changed lives when she helped
people repair their homes. She also purchased homes, paid college
tuition, and even help some people become debt free. Without Oprah's help some people would still be homeless, hungry, and without education. The stories that
the guest shared gave people hope. The viewers could relate and
applied what they learned from the show to help them get through
life.

Conclusion
Oprah
Winfrey inspires me because she had the strength to keep going even
though she had many obstacles in her life. Oprah has taught me that
no matter what obstacles are put in my way, I can still succeed at
anything I want to do. I admire Oprah because she didn't
stop setting goals when she became famous. Oprah
is a powerful entrepreneur that shares her wealth and knowledge. Heroes are all around you because they are everyday people that preserve regardless of the obstacles they face. Oprah Winfrey is my HERO!
