Patsy Oda is a Japanese-American girl who had a beautiful experience with Jesus Christ. She shared her true story by writing a book. The title of her book is Heart’s Desire.
The story began with how Patsy came to know about Jesus Christ. When Patsy was eight years old, she accepted an invitation to go to church. This little decision brought Patsy to a big change. She felt peace and happiness when she heard about the Bible and as she prayed with other Christian people. Patsy had opened her heart to Jesus, and day to day, she became nearer to God. God became a savior and guide for Patsy.
She wrote that her family was Japanese and they were Buddhist. Most Japanese families were Buddhist. Patsy’s Mom forbade her to believe in Jesus or to become a Christian person. Her mother was very afraid that no men would want to marry Patsy because of her religion. But Patsy still continued in her beliefs. Although, she was forbidden from going to the church, she still prayed and read her holy Bible, which was very worn-out because Patsy too often opened it. Patsy always asked guidance from God in all of her decisions.
Till the time when Patsy’s age was the time to think about marriage, Patsy always believed that God would give her what was best for her. But, many people began to talk about Patsy. They thought that Patsy was over believing about her God.
Patsy was praying with sadness, “God, I’m not objecting to life alone, if it is Your will. But please do something to repair your reputation.” Then, God brought Walter Oda in Patsy’s life. But the trouble was Walter wasn’t a Christian man. He didn’t know anything about Jesus. Because of this, Patsy refused him. However, Walter and Patsy were still friends. They stayed connected by letters. Patsy still held to her principles to marry a man who shared the same religion with her. So, when Walter became more interested in her, she stopped their letters.
Patsy still prayed to God. God guided her to write the criteria of the kind of man that she wanted. She wrote: A Christian man, American-Japanese, kind, full of surrender to God, and confirmed by the Bible. Then God guided her again to write more specifically. She wrote again: taller than me about 7.5-15 centimeters, likes Japanese food, has a short family name, comes to my house’s door, and is saved from death in an amazing way. The last criterion was written, because if Patsy ever woke up one night and felt that her mate was in danger, she must to pray for that person.
In time, Walter came again to Patsy’s life. He was embittered about Jesus and the stories which were always told to him by Patsy. They start to post letters to each other again, but, just to ask about Jesus. In a long process Patsy introduced Jesus to Walter. In short, finally Walter accepted Jesus in his heart. In all of her life, Patsy never felt that she would fall in love. But, when she looked at Walter, who had been accepting Jesus, she looked with peace into Walter’s eyes, and she knew she was falling in love. Then they began to have a relationship.
It is an amazing true story. One night, Walter asked Patsy about Patsy’s criteria of a man. Patsy remembered about the list that she had written. When the criteria were read, they could see that God matched the criteria that had not matched with Walter in the past. But, the last criteria made Walter shocked very much. Apparently, one night when Patsy was praying for a man that WOULD BECOME be her husband - when Patsy did not know Walter - Walter had got been in an accident. It had been so bad that Walter’s blood had flowed in his car, and no one had expected that Walter would survive. Walter's rescue and survival from death was miraculous - and it matched with Patsy’s criteria perfectly. Then, Patsy truly believed that Walter had been chosen by God and was the right man for her. Then they were married and their lives together were lived as good children of God.
Patsy’s true story makes me believe even more in God’s plan that it will always be beautiful in our lives. We must walk with God, reflect on the Bible, and always pray. We must live, believing God to be our captain in our life, and that the things that make us afraid are nothing. Jesus blesses us.
