A hero figure to me would have to stand out and be a fighter, giver, and a person who has amazing achievements that they earned all by themselves. They also must be kind, and loving, and always willing to help. A person who matches all these descriptions and many more would have to be Oprah Gail Winfrey. She is an amazing person and is a wonderful example of a hero. I truly think that when anyone says hero that Oprah Winfrey would come to mind.
Oprah was born on January 29, 1954; she was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She was a fighter ever since she could understand what was going on around her. Her parents were teenagers that weren’t married, so starting with that life must have been hard. After Oprah was born, her mother traveled north and Oprah spent her first six years living in rural poverty with her grandma. Her grandmother taught her to read before the age of three, she also took her to church, were Oprah was nicknamed the “Preacher”, since she had a very good ability to recite bible verses. Because of all those things and Oprah becoming a successful African American woman who is known around the world, shows that Oprah even at a young age was a true fighter.
Many people can give a gift or even their time by being a volunteer, but when Oprah gives, she truly gives. During one of her talk shows “Oprah” she gave away cars to the entire audience. Oprah also has a charity called the Oprah’s Angel Network. This charity is aimed to encouraging people to make a difference in this world. The charity supports projects and provides grants to nonprofit charities around the world that share the vision of a better world. Oprah covers all the administration costs so all the money goes to the Oprah Angel Network. Those are only just a few of the great things that Oprah Winfrey does that shows she’s a big giver.
Oprah Winfrey has made a lot of achievements and is still making some very big ones. One of her earliest achievements was she landed an early half hour show on ABC in 1983. The show was a big hit, so they renamed it the Oprah Winfrey Show. Oprah also has interviewed a wide variety of celebrities from Leonardo DiCaprio to John F. Kennedy Jr. Oprah has also published two magazines one called “O, The Oprah Magazine” and the other one is called “O at Home”. Another big achievement Oprah has made is on February 9, 2006 she signed a 3 year, $55 million contract with XM radio. Including all these achievements Oprah Winfrey has not let it go to her head. Throughout the years she has stayed very down to earth.
All in all Oprah Winfrey is a fine hero to anyone of any race, religion or any disability. Oprah is a true fighter, tremendous giver, and has had amazing achievements. She has helped millions of families and people all over the world, by either being there to help or having her Angel Food Network there to help, or even just being on the television to offer help and encouraging words and stories. Oprah Winfrey is an amazing hero and has done a lot in her life from a poor child in Mississippi to the first African American woman billionaire, and also to a woman well known around the world. These reasons and so many more are why Oprah Winfrey is a hero figure to me.
