MY HERO FILM FESTIVAL AUDIENCE CHOICE AWARDS

 

Los Angeles, CA -- 11/21/11 -- The MY HERO International Film Festival is a continuing platform for filmmakers all over the world to voice their issues and celebrate the best in humanity. This marks the seventh year that MY HERO has held its film festival, but, for the first time ever, the festival will have an Audience Choice Award category.There are five films nominated in this category.

 

The film Get Real! Wise Women Speak by Joni Steele Kimberlin features older women who do incredible work to benefit their local communities as well as people from all over the world. Interviewees include women from actress Jane Fonda to Buddhist nun Tenzin Palmo, as well as everyday women who are simply extraordinary.

One World One Ocean by MacGillivray Freeman Films highlights the titular foundation. The brainchild of the MacGillivray family, One World One Ocean pledges to preserve and protect the ocean from irresponsible actions by human beings. The foundation hopes to inspire and rally people to join its cause.

Erica Fernandez: The Tool of Protest by the Institute for Advancing Unity and the Working Group highlights a courageous young girl who led her local community in a fight against a powerful mining corporation. The company's plan to run an LNG pipeline through Oxnard was a threat to the health of the community, and Erica decided she was not going to stand by and watch this happen.

Josh by Angelina Cantada tells the story of Josh Vander Vies. Born without arms or legs, Josh never lets that deter him from striving for, and achieving his goals. From athletics to education, Josh is a high achiever who triumphs over whatever obstacles life places in his path.

Sasa by Diane Namm is a film that highlights the tremendous determination of a young Burmese doctor. Sasa grew up witnessing the plight of his impoverished village and dreamed of becoming a doctor so he could help his community. Knowing this, his village pooled together whatever they had to send him to medical training in Armenia. Now, Sasa has accomplished his dream, and he's returned to keep his promise.
