My hero is my uncle, because he is a brave and giving man. His name is Paul Ethier and he is a volunteer firefighter. His birthday is on September 26th. He was born in Timmins in 1975. The fire department that he works for is called Mount Joy. He has been a volunteer firefighter for 13 years and he usually gets 13 calls in a month. Uncle Paul likes to be a volunteer firefighter because he likes to help the community and he thinks it's fun and exciting to meet new people.

He is my hero because he volunteers his time to help other people even though he is very busy with his own family. When he is on call, even if he’s sleeping in the middle of the night he still gets up to fight the fire. He once saved a little kitten that was in a burning basement. My uncle also goes to crash scenes and emergencies other than fires. He has saved a person who couldn’t get out of a car crash by themselves. He used the Jaws of Life to help them get out of the car. My uncle takes a lot of courses to learn how to help people and he went to the Ontario Fire College.

My Uncle has inspired me to want to help other people because helping people without asking for anything in return is a quality I’d like to have. I am proud of my uncle and that is why he is my hero.
