Imagine getting chosen to live a life of luxury, and having everything you desired, but you turned it all down. Pope Francis gave it all up, trading luxury for simplicity. He accepted his sins before his followers, and stepped outside his bubble to come face to face with the ones who truly needed his guidance. Before becoming Pope, Jorge Mario Bergoglio was born and raised in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He worked as a high school teacher prior to devoting his life to the church in 1969. In 2001, he was elevated to Cardinal by Pope John Paul II. Twelve years later he was elected the 266th Pope of the Roman Catholic Church, he chose his papal title after St. Francis of Assisi a title no other pope had chosen (Pope Francis I). His first action as Pope hinted his wish for the change of the church. The Pope wasn't only looking to modify the church, but also make a difference in the world. Pope Francis is more than just the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, he is also a hero and the true definition of humility because of his work promoting religious freedom, his belief in human rights, and his support for young people.

Pope Francis' attempt to advocate religious freedom is one of his most heroic works. By demonstrating how to fix our problems of injustice, Pope Francis tells us where we are going wrong, by saying, "[...] but also and above all realizing that our own actions are a cause of injustice and inequality" (De la Merced). Pope Francis thinks that our lack of equality and justice is because we don't merge together. When we don't support each other in our differences we are only creating what we all want to eliminate from our world, injustice. We need to understand each other's differences in order to come together and have the ability to believe what we want without getting judged. Pope Francis is very open to the different religions and suggests we accept our differences because we will realize that we are all equal, no matter what we believe we all end up in the same place, "Jorge always said that we are all children of God and the important thing is that we believe in God. No matter the wafer" (A Pope for Everyone). Pope Francis is confident that importance of religion is that we all believe in something, not in what we believe. He opened up people's minds to the idea that religion is about believing in something that makes you happy and fills your life with purpose (Moreno). Pope Francis overlooks religion and focuses on helping people, not a race or religion. In life we need certain things like love, faith, and peace. But we can't reach those things if we are discriminating each other for our different beliefs.
In Pope Francis' eyes we are all equal and we all have human rights so we should start acting like equals and stop overlooking the ones in need. Pope Francis is a genuine person that is moved by the pain of others, "[...] he knows how to understand suffering in people's hearts" (A Pope for Everyone). Pope Francis being very aware of the problems humanity faces, attempts at building a better world through his teachings and by setting examples. By doing this he opens the eyes of others to seeing the suffering of the world and encourages them to help the ones who need it. Pope Francis flew out to Uganda to speak to young people and help inspire them and others, "to live more fully and more deeply, to reach out to the poor and broken, to end injustice, to build peace. And to find the joy in all of it" (CRS). He has faith that thinking of others throughout our lives, and not making assumptions is the best possible way to value each other. He also believes that truly taking the time to look at each other will make us consider that we all have the same opportunities. Pope Francis claims that if we live like this we will have a better chance at stopping injustice and violence so peace and love can thrive. We all have the same rights disregarding religion, race, or status. Even though our society today encourages us to forget about the ones in need, we must always keep them in our thoughts and prayers.

Pope Francis has hope that today's generation of young people will be able to save the world and make the future a better place than it is today. He personally takes the time to fly around the world teaching the youth about their influential power. "The enthusiasm and the festive atmosphere that you know how to create are contagious. You are open to hope and full of enthusiasm" ("Pope's Address to Young People of Abruzzo and Molise"). Pope Francis believes that today's youth is the hope for the future of the world, he encourages them to use their youthful spirit to change the world for the better. The main goal for his lectures is that they will reach the hearts of the youth teaching them about God and life, influencing them to change the way the world is for the future, of not only the church but the world. Pope Francis' simple and humble way of living helps people connect with him, "[...]by his way of speaking to people of today with simple words, with expressive gestures[...]" (A Pope for Everyone). The Pope's way of communicating his wisdom is simple yet effective, this is why more young people are drawn to him, because they can actually relate to what he is preaching. He is also doing more things that young people are more likely to do. For example, he is the first ever Pope to have a social media account, younger generations are more aware of what the pope is saying and doing. Pope Francis believes that this generation is the hope for the world and that is why he is reaching out to the young in a way were they understand and can relate to.
In conclusion Pope Francis goes above and beyond his responsibilities as the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, and promotes religious freedom, believes in human rights, and supports the young people of the world, he does this all in a humble and heroic way. He shows young people to respect human rights and understand others beliefs in order to make a difference worldwide. To me Pope Francis is an inspiration because of the way he chose to live his life as the Pope. I personally believe him to be one of the most heroic people because he not only cares about fixing the flaws in the church but he is also trying his best to make a difference in the world. I truly admire Pope Francis for his way of living and doing things, I am in awe of his way of preaching and how his words are so easily understood but still have a very strong positive affect. Also I admire how he views humanity as equal and how his faith for the world is so strong no matter how flawed it is.
