Percy LeBron Spencer

by Annie from Ansonia

Do you have a hero? Well I do! His name is Percy LeBron Spencer. Did you know he was born in Howland, Maine? He invented the microwave oven! Well in this essay you will get to know all about his bio information, accomplishments, and why he is a hero to me!!!

Well now you get to learn the bio information! He was born on July 9, 1894. Sad enough, he died on September 8, 1970 at age 76. He lived a good long life. He had been in the U.S. Navy. He had gotten an award called the Distinguished Public Service award. He was also in the year 1912 to 1918. Although in 1897 his father died and not much longer his mother left him. After that his aunt and uncle took care of him. At an age of seven his uncle died. Of course he invented the microwave oven.

Next you will get to learn about his accomplishments. As you know he invented the microwave oven. As I said before he got the Distinguished Public award. In Boston he worked in the Wireless Specialty Apparatus Co. When he was in his 30’s and 20’s, he worked in the Raytheon Company. He was also with the Institute of Radio Engineers. When he was younger he never got the chance of grammar school, but at 12 years old he worked as an apprentice at a mill.

Do you know why he is my hero? It is because if it weren’t for him I wouldn’t be able to microwave leftovers as fast! It also takes less time because you don’t have to wait for it to heat up. All you have to do is put it in, punch in how long, and let it do the heating up! Some microwaves now have speed defrost! It just makes life a whole lot easier, don’t you think? I love it!!

That is why Percy LeBron Spencer is my hero! Well now you know his bio information, accomplishments, and why he is my hero! Now you can see why I think Percy LeBron Spencer made my life easier and I thank him a lot for it.
