My hero is Patrick Roy. He was born October 5, 1965 in Quebec City, Quebec. He began his hockey career with the Montreal Canadiens. His favourite people are his family and frinds and his teammates.
He was the youngest winner of the NHL when he led the Canadiens to the Stanley Cup in 1986 at the young age of 21! That's amazing! Something else that's amazing is that he has collected hockey cards since he was 10. He must have a very big collection by now!
In 1996 to 1999 he won 101 regular season games. That's pretty good! He also led the Canadiens to 2 Stanley Cups. He has won 4 Stanley Cups. 2 Cups with the Canadiens and 2 with the Colorado Avalanche. He has also won the Vezina Trophy, the Conn Smyth Trophy for being M.V.P. 2 Seasons in a row. He also won the William Jennings Award and the Trico Gaoltending Award for being the 6th Best goaltender in the world.
Did you know that after a big save Patrick talks to his goalposts? Also between periods he bounces a puck off the dressing room floor for good luck. "Roy" means "King" in French so he really is Patrick King. Some people call him King of the hill. Sometimes Patrick skates up to the blueline and charges at the net at full speed and stops at the side of the net. He says it makes the net look smaller. That's pure superstition! He likes to fight and smart-mouth to the refs. His most famous nickname is St. Patrick.
Patrick Roy is my hero because he helped win the Stanley Cup in 2001. It was played in New Jersey. He is also my hero because he was M.V.P. for 2 seasons in a row in 1986. You have to agree with me, Roy's the best!!
