Pele is the undisputed Master of the World's Game. Pele played soccer and won many games. He gave Brazil a very good reputation and called a lot of attention to himself. He eventually surpassed Muhamad Ali in black sports history. He won many awards and beat all opponents that came his way. This is his story:
His real name is Edson Arantes Do Nascimento (I would like to note that this name would be the nightmare of any soccer commentator or normal person which is why they nicknamed him Pele). He was born on October 23, 1940 in a poor town in Tres Coracos, Brazil. His parents were Dondinho and Celeste Nascimento. He grew up learning soccer from his father who was a decent center-forward for his soccer team. As a teenager Pele began playing soccer for a local minor-league club. When he wasn’t playing, he was trying to scrape out a meager existance, shining shoes for pennies. At the age of 11 one of the country's premier players, Waldemar de Brito found he had some good skill as a soccer player and began Pele's rise into soccer and black sports history. The following words were the ones used by Waldemar himself when he saw Pele play "This boy will be the greatest soccer player in the world."
Pele eventually became famous and was considered the best soccer player the world over, until he sustained an injury. After the injury, Pele retired (he didn't need to play anymore; he had more than enough money). I think of Pele as my hero because he has the hard work and determination to do anything. Pele is living, breathing evidence that rags can become riches. I would do anything to be as determined as him.
In conclusion, Pele has been a hero to me through his hard work and determination. Pele still lives today, and he has made his family very happy.
