Pit Crew

You can never expect a racecar to do well. It all depends on the pit crew.

One day at Hythe Motor Speedway, I was pitting for my dad. We just ran hot laps. We did our time trials. He got 18.6 seconds. We were at the car and “O’Canada” came on. I locked the net on my dad’s car then Steve’s. The net is like a protection for the driver. It goes on the window.

The cars lined up at the gate. I grabbed a coffee and sat down. Two laps in, I heard a bang and looked at the track. I threw my coffee and ran to the track. My dad blew a cylinder.

It was not good. He was back in the pits and had to leave to get a part. He had to get a whole cylinder head. He left at 2 pm and got back at 9 pm.

The next day we got the car going. It was the last heat and he was in third when on the last lap my dad blew a belt. You can never expect a racecar to do well. It all depends on the pit crew.
