Jacques Plante

I chose Jacques Plante because he was important to hockey because he made the first goalie mask. Jacques Plante is also one of the best goalies that ever lived. He was a good sport who loved hockey and played by the rules.

Jacques Plante is famous because he invented the goalie mask, a thing that is mandatory in hockey now, but wasn’t even in hockey back then. He was a good sport and possibly saved lives with his idea. Jacques Plante’s coach wasn't happy when he went out on the ice with his goalie mask, in fact, he was furious. He thought everyone would make fun of him because his goalie was a chicken, but he wasn't, he was just smart. He was on a break-through that would turn out to make him famous.

Jacques Plante didn't only play for Montreal, he played for other teams like the Maple Leafs and the Edmonton Oilers. He also played in many leagues like the WHA, NHL, EPHL and the QJHL. He even retired and came back to play for 7 more years!

Through the years, many things happened to Jacques Plante. In 3 years, he got 150 stitches. He also he was general manager of the Quebec Nordiques and then played another year after that; that's not very common. He won 5 Stanley Cups and a couple of other trophies, such as the Vezina trophy which goes to the the NHL's best goalie.

His career achievements are:

-Winning 434 league games
-Was inducted as a member of the NHL Hall of Fame.
-Won 5 Stanley Cup championships
-Was named to the NHL first All-star team in 1956, 1959, 1962.
-Was in 8 All-star contests.
-Won the Hart trophy and the Vezina trophy
