Pocahontas

"Listen with your heart, you will understand." Pocahontas
Pocahotas as an English lady.
Pocahotas as an English lady.

The hero I chose is Pocahontas. She was born in 1595 in Jamestown, Virginia. Her real name was Matoaka. In England her name was Lady Rebecca. She died in 1617. The reason I chose her is because I wanted to study about a Native American.

Pocahontas saw some colonists and wondered who they were and went down and instantly became friends. Pocahontas brought food to the colonists. Once she brought a man named John Smith back to her village. Chief Powhatan did not like him so he decided to kill him. John did not know what they were doing but Pocahontas did. Pocahontas ran right to his head and said “ No!”

A while later, Pocahontas was captured by the colonists and brought back to England. In England her name was Lady Rebecca. She lived with a priest. Lady Rebecca met a lad named John Rolfe. They got married. They had a boy named Tomas. John decided to go back to Virginia but on the ship Pocahontas got too sick so they went back to England and Pocahontas died.

Some of Pocahontas’ personality traits are: she was very brave, she was a playful little girl, she was very adaptable, she was loveable, and she was very curious.

She was important because she proved women could be as powerful as men. She also saved a life, she might have stopped a war,

Her biggest obstacle was to try to get the Native Americans and the colonists to be friends. To do this she brought John Smith with her to her village to see what they thought.
