Matoaka or Pocahontas is a great hero who deserves her story to be known. The problem is that thanks to the Disney movie, most people only know a bunch of lies about the true Pocahontas story. Pocahontas’s true story includes how she saved a man’s life, united the English and the Powhatan, and how she went to England to raise money for Virginia.

The name of the man she saved was John Smith. The Disney movie did get that part right but she did not love John Smith. He was like a second father to her. Also, she did not say he would have to kill her also. Being a princess, she could claim anyone or thing so she claimed John Smith and that created trust between her and the English. That is the true reason she saved John Smith.

Matoaka or Pocahontas united the English and the Powhatan Indians. She created peace in the land. She risked being exiled from her land because she warned the English that her father was planning an attack. She also talked to the English for the Powhatan Indians. She was known as the Peacekeeper because as soon as she died, war broke out in Virginia. So that meant the only thing that was keeping the peace in Virginia was Matoaka or Pocahontas. That is what Pocahontas did to unite the English and Powatan Indians.

Then Matoaka (Pocahontas) left her homeland to raise money for Virginia. The Disney movie did get a part of it right. She did leave with her husband, named John Rolfe. She also went to raise money for Virginia. She risked her life doing this because she was not used to European civilization and did not have a strong enough immune system.

That is the true story of Matoaka (Pocahontas) the Indian princess. As I said before Matoaka (Pocahontas) is a great hero who saved John Smith’s life, united the English and the Powhatan Indians, and how she went to Virginia to raise money for her homeland.
