A hero is a person that someone admires, is a good leader to others, and sets a good influence. Heroes don't have to be popular, a celebrity or a sports star. But they can be. My hero played basketball and coaches today. His name is Mark Price. He is my hero because he is a strong Christian and was a great basketball player.

Mark Price's life has been pretty good. He was born on Febuary 15, 1964, in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He went to Enid High School with my mom and dad and played basketball there. Then, he went to Georgia Institute of Technology(Georgia Tech) with my dad. He also played basketball there. In the 1986 NBA draft Mark Price went to the Dallas Mavericks, on the trade day he was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers. He also played for the Washington Bullets, Golden State Warriors, and the Orlando Magic in the 12 years he played in the NBA.

Mark Price had many accomplishments in his life. He holds the most free throws made in the NBA, his percentage was 90.4%. He was the third person to have a three point percentage of 40% and 50% from the field. He is the Cavaliers all-time lesder with assists(4,206). He was a four time all-star player. In Enid, Oklahoma they renamed their basketball arena to the Mark Price arena because he was one of Enid's best basketball athletes. He was on the U.S.A national basketball team when he helped them win the gold. Price retired in 1998 soon after his retirement his jersey was retired by the Cleveland Cavaliers, his jersey at Georgia Tech is also retired.

Mark Price coaches nowadays. In March 2006, Price was appointed the inaugural head coach of the Australian South Dragon basketball team. On October 23, 2006, Mark Price resigned as their head coach. Team captain Shane Heal was promoted to the player-coach position. Mark Price is the current shooting coach for the Memphis Grizzles.

A hero is a human being that someone looks up to and who sets an awesome example to others. My hero is an athlete. His name is Mark Price. He is my hero because he has a strong belief in Jesus Christ. He is an amazing basketball player and I love basketball. He is only 6 feet tall so he had to work hard for his accomplishments. His faith and hard work have helped him in life and I admire that.
