Prudence Crandall

My hero, Prudence Crandall, was born in Rhode Island, September 3rd, 1803. I first took interest in Prudence when my school decided to have a living museum. We had to act as though we were statuettes. We had a star on the floor, and when somebody stepped on it we had to say a speech on somebody we researched. Well, I was Prudence Crandall, and that's how I became interested in her.

The way Prudence helped our society, though not many people have ever heard of her, is by, in a way, helping giving rights to the blacks. She fought for one black girl to be able to come to her school and learn just like all the whites. I admire Prudence because of her bravery and love towards everyone. She was not afraid to take her stand for what she believed.

Prudence died in Elk Falls, Kansas, in 1890 at the age of 87. It was a sad time for everyone she made a difference in. Including me.
