Ruby Bridges (www.rubybridges.org) |
My hero is Ruby Bridges. She was born in September 8, 1954 in Tylertown, Mississippi, and she is still alive now. Ruby Bridges played an important role in the Civil Rights Movement. She was the first black to go to an all white school. When she did that, she helped end segregation.
Ruby Bridges is a hero because when she was only 5 or 6, she went to an all white school knowing that she would get threatened and picked on. By that she played a big role in the Civil Rights Movement. Ruby Bridges is a risk taker. She is a risk taker because she knew that if she went to a school where blacks weren’t allowed, she would be threatened, harassed, and picked on, but she did it anyway. She did it for her family and to get a better education.
She has taught me about being like a hero by what she did. She fought for equal rights. She has taught me that if you fight for something that you believe in, then you might actually win.
