Roald Dahl

Roald Dahl is a hero. He came from a poor family, and his dad died when he was young. Roald Dahl had to become the man of the houses. This didn't stop him from chasing his dreams. He was very daring because he fought in World War Two. His books and stories were based on his adventures in his life. As you can see a lot of challenging things happened to Roald Dahl but, he still became a famous writer.

Roald Dahl's background was a difficult one. He was born Sep.13, 1916 in Wales, Great Britain. Later his sister died of appendicitis. Months later, his dad died of pneumonia. Roald Dahl hated school. He attended Elmtree Houses Elementary School. He played a trick (put a mouse in a candy tube) and got beaten so he was transferred to St. Peters School. He then went to Derbyshire School, and hated it. He loved the chocolate shop nearby. His dream was to become a chocolate inventor. He did not go to college and got job at Shell Oil. He got into a horrible accident in World War Two. As you can see he had a hard life.

Roald Dahl had a lot of challenges. His sister died of appendicitis. His dad died months later of pneumonia. He went into World War Two and got into a plane crash and broke his nose, skull, legs and, back. He needed 7 operations. He did not make money because he only wrote two books a year. His daughter (Olivia) died at seven years old because of German measles. On top of all that his son (Theo) got hit by a taxi. In 1965 his wife had a stroke. His family broke up quickly but he is a still a famous writer. As you can see his life was hard.

Roald Dahl had many accomplishments wanted to have kids enjoy his books. He did this by including creative characters. He also only wrote about funny things. Some of his books are Matilda, Charley and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach. Some adults like his books but some people thought his books where inappropriate. Like when he said "Some children are spoiled and it is not their fault, it is their parents'." People thought his books where so good they made movies out of his books. He also helped his community. The Felicity Dahl Foundation gives money to groups in subjects that interested him such as literacy and medical research.

Roald Dahl had a lot of awards in his life. He wrote two screen plays that became movies. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory made him rich and famous. He wrote books with illustrator Quentin Blake. All his books started as bedtime stories. His books are popular. Over 1,000,000 are sold every year. They help kids discover the wonders of science. As you can see he had a lot of awards in his life.

Three character traits Roald Dahl has are creativity, courage, and selflessness. First Roald Dahl is creative. He is creative because he wrote children books with charters that helped kids discover the wonders of science. Another character trait is he is courageous. He is courageous because he got through a tough time when he lost his sister, dad and daughter. He was still able to take care of himself and become a writer. Last he is selfless. He is selfless because he went to war as a pilot in World War Two. He also tried to talk to people to in order to get America to join with England in the fight. As you can see Roald has many character traits.

An important lesson young people can learn from Roald Dahl is, when bad things happen to you, don't give up. He never gave up. When all those people died he did not give up. Another lesson is always making life interesting and fun. You never want to have a boring life. Also follow your dreams. Once Roald Dahl wanted to be a writer, he never gave up. When you find something you like, stick to it that's how you succeed. Finally, let your imagination flow, and nothing is too much. As you can see, Roald Dahl had a very interesting life.
