Heroes come in many shapes and forms. My hero happens to be an American poet named Robert Frost. Robert Frost is an American poet well known for his poetry. His first poem was published in 1894 and it was called My Butterfly: An Elegy. Robert Frost attended Harvard University studying liberal arts for two years, though never graduating. Frost’s family life wasn’t easy, losing a father to tuberculosis and mother to cancer, but that didn’t stop him he went on and became an amazing and famous poet.

Robert Frost was born on March 26, 1874. He was born in San Francisco, California. His parents were journalist William Prescott Frost, and Isabelle Moodie. His mother was of Scottish descent and his father descended from Nicholas Frost. Frost graduated from Lawrence High School in 1892. "Despite his later association with rural life, Frost grew up in the city, and published his first poem in his high school's magazine." Along with Harvard, he attended Dartmouth College for two months though still never graduating.

After Dartmouth, Robert Frost for forty-two years, from 1921 to 1963, spent almost every summer and fall teaching at the Bread Loaf School of English of Middlebury College, at the mountain campus at Ripton, Vermont. "He is credited as a major influence upon the development of the school and its writing programs." Frost took his love of reading and writing and gave it back to the students. After his teaching career was over Frost tried many other jobs though never liking them and feeling that poetry was his true calling.

Robert’s poetry became so famous that one of his poems was quoted in a movie. While watching the movie The Outsiders, the main character named Ponyboy started reciting one of Robert’s poems. I believe that the poem is called Golden. This poem is about how nothing can stay golden. The meaning is that everybody is golden once in their lifetime. This is one of my favorite poems because it explains what life is about so well. That is one thing I like about Robert Frost, is that he got life. He knew the meaning of it.

I chose Robert Frost as my hero because to me he never lost his dream. Even after losing his parents and having to move from place to place, he knew he had to be a poet. In my eyes he wrote some of the greatest poetry. That is why I aspire to be a poet, because of him. When I read his poetry I knew I wanted to be able to write poetry just as good as him. He may have not come from money or power. That doesn’t really matter. Robert Frost was one poet that knew what he wanted and went for it. That is why he is my hero.
