Ricky Jordan

by Jackelynn from Pickerington

To me a hero is someone who puts others before him or herself. A hero is someone who is brave. They are people who don't have to be a celebrity or someone famous, but someone who helps others. A hero doesn't have to be able to deflect bullets off their chest or shoot lasers from their eyes. They could be your teacher, your parent, or the man living next door. A hero is not selfish or evil but caring and loyal.

I think it's important to have a hero. They set good examples for kids to learn from as they grow up. When kids grow up they don't know what to be or how to act. A hero will help them and guide them to be a successful person when they get older.

My cousin Ricky is a hero. He is very brave and puts others first. He saved 2 people's lives and didn't expect anything for it. He went to the war not thinking about himself but thinking about serving his country. He is far from famous and doesn't really care - he just wants to help anybody he can. He is a caring person and if he tells you he's gonna do something, he does it.

My cousin Ricky should be inducted because he is a Purple Heart awarded army soldier. One day while he was in the war he saw a grenade had landed in one of the U.S trucks. He risked his life and went to the truck to get the soldiers in there out. He saved 2 people's lives that day. But before he could get away the grenade went off, he was badly wounded. He had deep gashes in his legs and all over his body. The doctors told him he was lucky to be alive. He risked his own life to save others. He is a very brave man.

My interview with Ricky

Q: What does the word hero mean to you?
A: To me a hero is someone who is important to you. They are someone who you can count on and look up to. They are someone you can trust in 100%

Q: Do you think its good to have a hero?
A: Yes I do think it's important to have a hero. You can look up to them as a role model and help find yourself through them.

Q: Who is your hero?
A: My hero is my wife Tiffany.

Q: Why is she your hero?
A: She's my hero because she keeps me focused. Even when I went to war she was there for me. She is an amazing person. She helps me with problems and I can trust her with everything.

Q: Do you consider yourself a hero?
A: I do, and I don't. I do because I served my country and I think everyone serving their country deserves to be call a hero, whether it's a police officer or a fire fighter. I don't because I just feel I did the right thing. That's what people are supposed to do.
