Richard Nares

by Max from San Diego

"No child should miss their cancer treatments due to lack of transportation," said Richard Nares who, along with his wife Diane, had lost their only son to Leukemia back  in 2002. It was an unquestionably rough time for both of them, but instead of drooping around, Richard Nares decided to do something. Currently helping thousands of people across California, Richard started, "The Emilio Nares Foundation," a few month after his son, Emilio, died. Nares' program helps children with cancer and their families get to their mandatory cancer appointments, because poor families may not be able to afford it. The "Emilio Nares Foundation" offers families sterilized environment, stocked with snacks, and supplied with cleaning materials for times when children suffer reactions to their treatment's car rides. The work has expanded to offer families greatly needed education and advocacy training, healthy meals, support with burial costs, serving families at cancer camps, and added 6,500 new donors to the bone marrow registry. His work has helped the Children's Hospital offer a variety of services, carefully tailored for the all-consuming battle against cancer. With his devotion, caring, and promoted traits, Richard Nares continues to be an inspiration to people and deserves the title of a hero.

Richard Nares promoted his business in a lot of ways and it helped thousands of children as a result. Nares work ideally hard to save many children lives, per example, "Nares will begin his 'Richard Runs California,' fundraiser to help children fighting cancer." (Aradillas). Richard Nares is running 700 miles across California to promote his organization and to make children with cancer and their families lives easier. Nares pushed his body to the limit and fulfilled what he wanted. As he pushed his body to the limit, Nares became acknowledged by many prestigious companies, which include, "Richard was chosen to be one of thirty everyday heroes honored by People and the Major League Baseball." (Torgan). Also, Richard continues to be a CNN hero, theses awards helped his organization become more popular which as a result he helped even more families during their time for grief. Ultimately, it was Richard's promoted ability that helped many grieving families. Nares has devoted his whole life to helping grieving families who have children with cancer.

Richard Nares was and continues to be undoubtedly knowledgeable. Per example, when the owner of Children's Hospital in San Diego said, "It is necessary to get kids here on schedule for their treatments.."(Pippin). Nares'  knowledge shows that he knows that children are missing their appointments and he wants to fix it. He is going to fix it by helping out transportation. Later in his life, Nares' knowledge showed when he said, "No child should their cancer treatments due lack of transportation..."(Pippin). This shows Nares' devotion because he truly cares for these kids and when people truly care for something nothing is going to get in their way. Nares devotion made him well known and eventually his business and him won many awards which include a CNN hero.  Richard has wonderful qualities and will continue to inspire many people to follow their hearts and accomplish great things. He has always been unselfish and has helped thousands of people and continues to help. Richard Nares is an inspiration because of his knowledge and because he remained knowledgeable he became devoted to helping these children and their families.

Once Richard started the Emilio Nares Foundation, nothing was going to stop him from helping families across California. An example of him helping families and saving them a majority of travel time is when, He said, "It was over four hours one way by bus, and after the whole day of chemotherapy, it was the same amount of time back," said Richard. This shows that he is an inspiration because he has and will spend multiple hours helping children battling with cancer and their families. When people think of heroes, a few obvious ones come to their mind, Batman and Superman, but a true hero are the heroes may be the people that they see everyday. A true shows there devotion, and promoted and caring abilities. A person that fits this criteria perfectly is Richard Nares, and that's why he deserves the title of as a "hero."
