This si Rosa Parks on the bus. That's her face. (http://www.tcrconnectionsforkids.com) |
Rosa Parks was born in Tuskedgee, Alabama, on February 4th 1913. She grew up on a farm with her mom, brother, and grandparents. Her family was very poor and all struggled with poor health, since they couldn’t see a doctor very often. She died in 2005 at the age of 92.
She went to a one-room schoolhouse for black kids. The school was so poor they couldn’t afford to put doors on the bathroom stalls! At age 11 she moved to Pine Level and attended Miss White’s school for girls. Soon she left high school to care for her sick grandmother.
Rosa Parks and her family probably only saw a doctor 1 time a year because they couldn’t pay for it. Rosa suffered something called Chronic Tonsillitis. Her whole family suffered poor health.
Rosa Parks was such an amazing person because of her contribution to society. What she did is on December 1st she refused to give up her seat on the bus for a white person. She did go to jail for one day for this, but it changed the way they treated black people.
I admire Rosa Parks because she was brave and believed in freedom for everyone. I think she was a very brave woman and had a lot of courage. Rosa Parks was an amazing person!!
