"It's true hard work never killed anybody, but I figure, why take the chance?" This quote from Ronald Reagan conveys irony and humor of a man who worked in the private sector for 40 years before becoming a politician. Raised in Dixon, Illinois for the majority of his life, nobody really expected him to go on to do big things in life, but he became a radio host and soon began to get popular, then in 1937 Ronald got his big break and landed a Hollywood contract. Being an actor made Ronald pretty well known around the country, so when he started his career as a politician that gave him an advantage against other people. Although he grew up in a small town, he worked hard his entire life and took on responsibilities that would better prepare him for what he wanted to achieve in the future. Because of his hard work throughout his life and the major responsibilities he took on, Ronald Reagan is a hero.
The reason why Ronald Reagan was so successful was because that he worked hard for everything he wanted and didn't stop until he reached his goal. While Reagan was on a business trip for his job as radio host in Hollywood, he got discovered. "A screen test in 1937 won him a contract in Hollywood. During the next two decades he appeared in 53 films" (Beschloss & Sidey). After years of acting in school plays and being a radio host, he finally got his first Hollywood contract. He was to play a small role as a sports broadcaster, which was easy for him since he actually had past experience in doing that. Although he didn't star as any major roles, Ronald still worked hard by being in 53 films in his acting career. After many years of being in the acting industry, "By 1954, Reagan's film career had slowed down and he was hired by General Electric to host a television program and to make celebrity appearances at GE plants. He spent eight years doing this job, making speeches and learning about people around the country" (Rosenberg). After he was done in the film and television business, he still found work outside of Hollywood for himself to do. Working over 8 years and doing different jobs for this company showed that he was still willing to be a hard worker. Ronald Reagan worked hard for the majority of his life, the years of hard work he put in paid off in his future by him being a successful man.

Ronald Reagan had to be responsible because he was in charge of very important things in his lifetime. One of Reagan's first shots at showing that he was responsible was when he was elected as governor. "Reagan was elected and reelected governor of California. During his second term, he succeeded in building consensus around his Welfare Reform Bill." (PBS). When Reagan took over as governor of California, he took the responsibility of trying to fix the state's economy. He cared about what was affecting the citizens and did everything he could to make the state a better place to live in. Several years after he was the governor of California, "Reagan spent his years as President attempting to cut taxes, lessen people's reliance on government, and increase national defense. He did all these things. Plus, Reagan met several times with Russian leader Mikhail Gorbachev and made the first major move forward in the Cold War when the two agreed to jointly eliminate some of their nuclear weapons" (Rosenberg). As President of the United States, Reagan was responsible for controlling the countries actions and trying to make it a better place to be in. He knew that he was responsible for helping protect the citizens of the United States, so he did the responsible thing and met with the Russian leader so they could agree on eliminating some of the nuclear weapons in each country. By doing this, Reagan would give Americans a better sense of security. By putting his country as a top priority, this shows that he was a responsible person.
Ronald Reagan can truly be considered as a hero to all people for everything that he did. His hard work throughout his life is an example of somebody who put their mind to something and achieved it. In his career as a politician, he took responsibility of being in charge of millions of people. All of the hard work that Ronald Reagan put into his jobs throughout his life paid off because he ended up doing what he loved. The acts of responsibility he showed helped improve not only the country, but himself as a person. "The first year of Reagan's presidency is regarded as his most significant domestically. After recovering quickly from an assassination attempt in early 1981, Reagan advanced his supply-side economic policies through Congress. Showing political skill, he was able to get congressional enactment of sweeping tax reductions were designed to induce economic growth" (Darity Jr.). Even after almost being assassinated, Ronald Reagan came back as soon as he could and tried to fix the countries problems. He is an inspiration because whenever he wanted to achieve something, he never gave up and worked hard at getting to where he wanted to be. Reagan was always committed to being a hard worker and not giving up on whatever he was doing. Although people might just know him for being a president or an actor, he was much more. He was a true hard working, responsible American man that was an inspiration to all, and a hero.
