What the word hero means to me is somebody who has started out small but worked hard to get to where they are and doesn’t step on other people’s back to just get to where they are. Whether they’re war heroes or peace makers to artists or even comedians they can all be heroes.
My hero is Ringo Starr, a musician who was a member of the Beatles. Ringo was born in a small town in England called Liverpool on July 7 1940. He was afflicted by illness for many of his early years. When he was aged six he had appendicitis, which caused him to fall into a coma. At age thirteen, he developed chronic pleurisy and was sent to a sanatorium for two years. The periods of hospitalization left him behind scholastically and as a result he was ineligible to attend grammar school. Later Ringo attended Dingle Vale secondary modern school, leaving in 1955 In August 1962 Ringo joined the Beatles as drummer replacing Pete Best.

When the Beatles were scheduled to tour Holland, Denmark, Asia, Australia, and New Zealand, on the day before the tour Ringo collapsed and had a 102 degree fever and tonsillitis. He was rushed to the hospital. He was then sent home for recuperation, during this time he was replaced for the Sweden, Holland, Denmark, Hong Kong, and Adelaide tour by Jimmie Nicol.
After the break-up of the Beatles was announced on April 10, 1970, Ringo released two albums before the year ended. In 1971, Ringo started a furniture company. In 1975 Ringo started the record company Ring O'records. On July 23 1989, Ringo Starr & his All Starr band gave their very first performance to an audience in Dallas, Texas.
Ringo's early life was filled with illness but he worked hard and was able to become famous and that is why Ringo Starr is my hero.
