I am a high school freshman who is currently looking at career options and thinking about my future. I think it is important to think about your future early and plan ahead so that is what I am doing. It so happened that Psychology sparked my interest. I have been wanting to go into Psychology for a while now because I want to just help people get through their problems and I know how it feels when you want to talk about some problems but don't have anyone to talk to about it. My personal career hero I picked is Robert Sternberg he is a physiologist who has accomplished so much and is doing great things still today to help others! He's written five very well-known books about psychology, Became the President of the American Psychology Society and the list can go on and on those are just a couple of examples.
In psychology and psychotherapy and there are many different jobs you can go into but to be any type of psychologist you will need a doctorate degree in either psychology or education and you also have to pass the state licensing exams. Some job related tasks are just talking to other about problems and helping people get through them. On average in California the starting salary of psychologist is about $69,293 per year and can grow in the number of years to $79,165-$101,029. Some careers similar to psychology is social work and counseling. Recent developments in this career there is a new drug that scientist have been trying out when the drug is inserted into your brain you can taste bitter and sweet in everything you can eat or drink including water. You can taste all the minerals and substances in the food you eat. This helps people because it increases their senses and insures people they are getting all the nutrients they need. Some traits you need to be successful in this career later on in the future if you want to go into this field is good listening skills, social skills and good talking skills to be a psychologist because all day you talk to different people about their problems and try to give them the right advice and point them in a good direction or path and to do so you need to have a positive attitude and also be optimistic not a pessimist.
Robert Sternberg is a psychologist who has accomplished a lot in his life. After earning his undergraduate degree at Yale University and doctorate at Stanford University, he went back to Yale as a psychologist professor .Not long after that he became the Dean of arts and Sciences at Tufts University. What attracts me to him is how much he has accomplished My personal hero Robert Sternberg has many successes like graduating from Yale and Stanford University, being the President of the American Psychology Association, writing famous books that has helped others like Triarchic Theory of Intelligence and theories related to creativity, and also has thirteen honorary doctorates in European Countries. I think a big success for him being invited and speak at so many prestigious institutions attests the respect he holds in the psychology fields. Sternberg now a days has a family and lives in New Jersey and works as a Professor.
Robert Sternberg has been rewarded multiple times for many different things he has done and has been very President of American Psychology Association and a professor at Yale University not to mention his seminars. I don't think there's anything really that He can do to help others but he makes a big impact by passing on his knowledge which is exactly what he is doing by writing books and speaking at college seminars. $330,000 for search firms to find replacements for administrators and deans who resigned . "Be the change you want to see in the world"- Mohandas Gandhi.
My high school goals are to join the psychology club in high school and do all my research now for the future. Maybe I will interview the councilors here at school. In college I plan to major in Psychology and hopefully be able to go to a seminar on it. I would also love to read a couple of books about psychology preferably by Robert Sternberg my personal career hero. It would be great if I could talk personally to a professional physiologist or maybe some professors and councilors to learn more on this subject and get a better perspective. And my life time goal is to just help people and to be a well- known psychologist so I can help others and lead them to a good path if needed or be there if someone needs to talk to someone.
