Rick Barry

by Frankie from Milpitas

In life it wasn't what you know, but who you know.

My sports hero is Rick Barry, he's known as one of the best small forwards of all time. Born in New Jersey, he played for the University of Miami, where he met his wife Pam. In 1964-65 Barry led his time to the NCAA, however they did not take part in the program. Rick's first professional team was the Golden State Warriors, from the years 1965-67. He then went on playing for five other teams, Oakland Oaks, New York Nets, Washington Caps, Golden State Warriors, and Houston Rockets.

My hero still lives today at the age 65. However, he played basketball from the years 1965-1980. His prime season would have to be was when he played for his first team, The Golden State Warriors where he was voted MVP.

The reason I chose Barry was because of his determination towards the game. How basketball was his life and that's all he ever wanted to do. He was so determined he taught his sons how to play, leading his son Brent to winning the NBA Championship in 2005 and 2007.
